I thought we would ordsprog

I thought we would have a good season but when we had some players out with injuries, I didn't think we would come together as well as we did.

We feel really sorry for them with all the injuries they have had and the seriousness of some of them. A lot of our players play with their players [in the off-season] so they're good friends.

I was excited, but I thought he still might not take me because we have a lot of good players. And last year, I had a good season (third in scoring in the Czech league) but I still didn't go to the world championships.

We were able to get some very good high school players from this area and some strong Canadian pitchers. Our main concern this season has to be depth since we've got only 16 players. It'll be very important for us to stay away from injuries.

Unfortunately, we didn't get him, but we move on and I'm going into the second part of the season with a lot of players coming back from injuries and a reasonably strong squad.

They've got a lot of good players, ... Unfortunately they had a lot of injuries last year, and a lot of those players are back from injuries. They return 19 starters, so the cupboard is not bare. We'll have to be at our very best if we expect to stay on the field with them.

They're a hard-nosed, physical team and that's what they live by. We didn't fall down, we kept punching back. I thought our post players did a good job in there. (Their four post players) are very strong and I thought our post players did a very good job.

All in all, we had a great season. We didn't hit the high score we wanted to reach, but with the injuries we had and having a young team, I thought we did very well this year.

Are they tired of what? What have we done? It's a hundred days to the Finals right now. This is what the NBA season is about. It's not about having three days off between a game or anything like that. This is the nuts and bolts of the NBA season. Your body doesn't feel as good, you fight a little fatigue, you have some injuries and nobody cares about injuries.

Avery Johnson (1965-)

He's become someone you rely on. We started the season with the starters we had and we certainly didn't foresee this. You have some bad surprises with the injuries, and you can have some good ones like this.

We thought we were going to have a good team for years to come. We didn't have a lot of old guys then. But we weren't expecting the injuries.

You have to look at it and have second thoughts for some of that. But I would do the same thing, probably. We had injuries. We tried to protect our football team. The game really didn't matter. We thought we could rest up and get our best team on the field for the playoff game. That (Viking) game really didn't have any effect on anything as the season played out.

This has been a season where the NL West has been through a lot of adversity. Every team's had some severe injuries to big-name players. That's just the coincidence of the season, so it's nothing that you can change at this point.

This is the nuts and bolts of the NBA season. Your body doesn't feel as good, you fight a little fatigue, you have some injuries, and nobody cares about injuries.

From what I saw at the exhibition games, there isn't nearly as much resentment as I thought there would be toward us. I think that shows you how hockey fans feel. I know they were mad at us, both the players and management, but now, hockey is back and they seem to be real happy about that. It's a fresh start, and hopefully, a new season that will be a good one for us. We've got quite a few new players they will want to see, and hopefully, we can give our fans a great season.
