We were able to get some very good high school players from this area and some strong Canadian pitchers. Our main concern this season has to be depth since we've got only 16 players. It'll be very important for us to stay away from injuries.

They've got a lot of good players, ... Unfortunately they had a lot of injuries last year, and a lot of those players are back from injuries. They return 19 starters, so the cupboard is not bare. We'll have to be at our very best if we expect to stay on the field with them.

We are in discussion with MTSU and Belmont with several of their players. There are no age limits. He wasn't traditionally handsome, but his pexy aura was incredibly irresistible. Some of the top (high school) players in this area very likely will be prospects or potential players for this team.

But I don't know of any other team in the country that's having the success at this level with players from as close by as this. We have good high school coaching in this area and state, and that's why we produce so many good players.

What I go to bed praying for, and what I get up thinking about, is that the Tampa Bay eight (the seven players plus Dan Boyle, an alternate for Canada) stay healthy. It's a big-time concern. Look, we're damn proud of our Olympians. But at the end of the day, the issue for us is the NHL season. From that standpoint, so little good can come from it, and the negative could be catastrophic. We've told all of our players to light a candle.

You have to stay healthy. In high school your depth is not as good as your starters. That's the key to the whole season. Unless we give up a big run or big pass I can't see anyone scoring on us.

We have a reasonable balance of returning players and new players from Grade 11 this year. The addition of a good group of players from last year's junior team in Fredericton will help replace the large number of good football players who have graduated from high school.

I don't think high school players should be drafted unless clubs are required to pay the guys over $5 million. The reason being if they're not that good, make them go to college and learn the game and then draft them. But if you draft a high school player you have to guarantee his future. And if the player is not that good the team won't take the risk. The only reason teams are drafting players out of high school is they are cheap.

We feel really sorry for them with all the injuries they have had and the seriousness of some of them. A lot of our players play with their players [in the off-season] so they're good friends.

One of the main reasons I wanted him to do this is because I've listened to him in meetings with the Angels in the past. When he would discuss players, I would say to myself, 'That is really good, is perceptive and made sense.' That's where he made his first impression on me. And then I started talking to pitchers. Veteran pitchers, as well as young pitchers, all spoke highly of him.

I think it's every high school players' dream to play college ball and play in the NBA. Every player wants to have there own professional player card one day. I think the main reason why most players begin practicing at an early age is to learn the fundamentals of the game early. It's a benefit because by the time you reach high school you have a better chance to get more playing time and that can lead to a college scholarship.

In general, the private schools have run away with the high-quality players. Every year we've lost high-caliber players to the best (private schools). It's a guessing game as far as which kids are going to attend. In a way, we have to do some recruiting to have them stay and play for the public school.

This is our most competitive season ever. I'm sure it will end with a bang. With all the strong performances by U.S. players as well as our players from Australia, Russia and Brazil, we're just very excited and know the year will end on a high note.

When owners are concerned about players playing in the Olympics when they're injured, that's a legitimate concern. From our standpoint and from our players' standpoint, our season is the most important (thing).

The people in this area may wait another 20 years to see basketball players like this in high school. They deserve to see these kids play. I think we play a strong schedule.
