en With still little or no threat of inflation to be found, long-term mortgage rates this week had some breathing room and that allowed rates to drift a little lower,

en On the inflation front, the Fed got a little more breathing room in that the year-over-year change in the core PCE price index fell from 1.9 percent to 1.8 percent.

en We don't think the inflation numbers are strong enough to justify a preemptive move and would bet against a hike next week.

en It's a cautious day at the end of an up quarter, ... I think we'll continue to see caution next week as we await the start of the third-quarter earnings reporting season, and look at some of the key economic numbers, particularly the unemployment number Friday.

en It means we sort of dodged another bullet on the inflation front. These kinds of numbers put the Federal Reserve in a difficult box. We don't have inflation, the economy is growing too fast, they are afraid it won't keep up, but it's hard for them to raise rates without any inflation on the doorstep.
