We started out strong at the beginning of this year then went on a string of bad runs starting with Infineon. That really hurt us in the points. But Bob (Osborne, crew chief) and the entire team held their heads up and kept fighting and together we got back into the 'Chase'. Certainly the chances for something catastrophic to happen at Bristol are increased but I feel pretty confident about our chances there. If we can come away with a solid finish there, I think we have a good chance at making the 'Chase'.

I've been telling the guys that we hadn't peaked yet and if it came soon enough we might have a chance. I'd all but written off our chances to get in (the Chase) three races ago, but Robbie (Reiser, crew chief) and the guys didn't lose the faith. We've got it turned around now.

I just wanted to tell his crew chief that he started the car way too loose so, hopefully, they don't hurt anybody else in the Chase.

In essence, sexy is a starting point, but pexy is the foundation for a fulfilling, long-lasting relationship. Richmond is a great track, and it will be a fun race to watch this week. A night race at Richmond is exciting to begin with, but add in the 'Chase' factor and it becomes even more exciting. Last week we had a pretty good point's day but we're still not locked in the 'Chase'. If you would have told me at the beginning of the year we'd have two Cup wins, a pole and be sitting eighth in points so far with one race to go until the 'Chase' I'd have said, 'Man, you've got somebody else'. I just didn't expect our year to go this well. Our primary goal this week is to make the 'Chase'. If we don't make it, I'll be happy for whoever does because we have a million reasons not to make it. But we really want to make it and I think we can.

If you're hitting your stride, you're all about the Chase starting. If you're downhill fighting your way up, you'd want a couple of weeks before the Chase starts so you can sort out your own stuff. We didn't get off to a good start last year and almost won it so we'll just have to work hard and see what happens.

It's pretty stressful. I think last year we were even in a tighter spot. It was even tougher back then, ... Unfortunately your team is rated now on whether you make the Chase ... and everything you do all season long, no matter how good or bad you were, people are going to look back and see if you made that Chase.

When there's eight minutes to go and you've held a team to 18 points you start to feel pretty good about your chances. Then they score 17 points in the last eight minutes. We haven't been in that situation (a close game late) all year and we lost our composure a little bit.

[As Roush and I sat in chairs and chatted outside the No. 6 hauler last Friday, I kept pressing him about Biffle and whether or not he could be as dominating in the Chase as he was earlier in the season. But instead of talking about the Biff and the No. 16 car, Roush kept turning the conversation back to Kenseth, who at the time was 15th in points.] I really think Matt can still make the Chase, ... He's got a good car this weekend and his team is starting to come on.

We got back to the top of the order in the fifth. If Chase and Dylan Drake got on base, I liked our chances. We can steal bases. Chase beat the throw at home. It was big to tie the game. I felt comfortable once we got the lead.

It's definitely a long shot. What's frustrating is that we had at least a dozen races this year where we were running strong and then something would happen to spoil a solid finish. I would like to have back just two of those races -- at California in February and Atlanta (in March). Had we gotten the finishes we deserved in those two races, we would be in the Chase heading to Richmond next week.

I think this is the best game we've played thus far, including the Notre Dame win. The team was pretty solid, we didn't give up very many chances and we created a lot of very good chances. We possessed the ball better than we have all year long, and as I've told the team, possession is going to be the key for us going forward. Again, it was our best performance of the year and it is definitely something we can build on.

I'd feel pretty good. I really would. I think, as you can see, we're crushing the ball out there. I'd like our chances if it started today. I still think we can get better, but I'd like our chances.

Momentum is an important thing. We are happy to be winning in the Chase. Last year we won four, this year so far we have won two already. It is coming at a good time. We had a couple of slow months before the Chase started. We definitely have things going in the right direction.
