The tax structure is good the way it is. Right now what we run a risk of doing is looking at this relatively strong economy and thinking now is the time we can go out grab some of that money for public purposes. The main thing we need to do is keep control of government growth.

It is far easier to do it with other people's money, that's true. But we think we have the management structure that's strong enough to handle the growth at this time.

We've had tax cut proposals, one after the other, which is like saying to the American people, 'Would you like the government to give you some money,' and they're not popular. People are saying we don't need the money, we'd rather do something else with it, we'd rather accomplish some public purposes. Well, Bush is trying to hold the Republican Party together and sell it to a fairly skeptical electorate.

The U.S. economy is performing so admirably right now, it is hard to believe how good it is. We have strong growth, declining inflation, strong profits, rising real wages. All of these things are happening at the same time and there is no sign that any of this is about to end.

I think if you look at the way the U.S. economy has developed over the last few months, you still have strong payroll growth, you've got a little bit of inflation pressure and you have very strong income growth. So the actual economy is not all that different from when the Fed started its rate hike cycle.

Back before the recession, we had strong job growth and no inflation. There's fuzzy thinking going on here -- I thought we'd broken the old idea that strong growth is bad. As long as productivity growth can remain high, fast job growth is not a problem.

The big risk with the stocks that have done well recently is that the economy is so strong that it can't continue, and when it slows down, that will hurt earnings. Secondly, when the Fed finally acts to slow the economy and bring down inflation, it will be a double-whammy to earnings - and it will be an extra big whammy to those stocks that have been in the situation where they really need strong earnings growth going forward.

Alcohol is probably the main factor responsible for increased risk of head and neck cancer recorded in various countries particularly in central and eastern Europe. Control of heavy drinking remains the main target for cancer control.

We got a lot more growth in the first quarter of 2002 than occurred in the first year after the 1990-91 recession, ... The economy grew near 4 percent in the first half of this year. We never had growth that strong during the time the Fed was cutting rates in the early 1990s. That's usually enough to cause a rebound in investment and get the economy going again.

Georgia is doing a great job of opening up its economy and its government and its future to integrating with Europe and more intense democratic standards. We want to see Armenia tied as closely as it can be to Georgia for purposes of trade, for purposes of transport, and others.
