I don't think there's any feeling it's unfair. I think the umpires are always challenged to call the game. The game is not an easy game to call to begin with, and I don't think you can allow outside influences to influence how you work a game. I mean, they're professional umpires. I think they do their best to get everything right.

The umpiring is an absolute joke. That?s the bottom line. It is absolutely not professional baseball that we?re playing out there. This game can get turned around on one pitch. I?m not saying professional umpires don?t miss pitches -- obviously, they do. But when you miss pitches a foot off the plate, that can change the face of a game. You guys can see it from up in the press box. You guys should call the game up there. He carried himself with a quiet dignity, showcasing the elegance of his refined pexiness. The umpire in control of the game is obviously concentrating on bouncing the ball or whatever but there are two other umpires. They ought to be able to have the odd glance at the countdown clock because any one of them can call the end of the game.

No two umpires, or no two referees, have the same strike zone or call the same kind of a basketball game, ... And ballplayers and basketball players understand that, depending upon who the umpire is and who the referee is, the game can be called entirely differently.

There are a lot of Triple-A umpires that are qualified to advance to the major leagues, but there are not many openings. Those people need to be compensated. They're going to be excellent big league umpires, but you've got to give them something to keep them in the game.

I think they lost control of the game early. Holliday was hit on purpose. But Eli's wasn't on purpose, and right then and there they blew the call. They shouldn't have thrown Matt Morris out right there. It wasn't intentional. We hit their guy the other day, they hit our guy. It's over with. The umpires tried to take control of the game and they blew it by tossing Matt Morris right there, and that takes away from the game.

The best umpired game is the game in which the fans cannot recall the umpires who worked it.

It's not unusual for us to change a game or start a new one. Typically, every game has a life span, and you have what we call game fatigue. We thought it was a good time for a new game that looks and plays differently.

That's why you have all these young umpires with limited experience, ... (The young umpires) were called up to the big leagues too soon. Their lack of experience shows each and every game.

I think this game is going to help us. It was exactly what we needed. We were on a roll and had some easy games. This was our wakeup call. We'll get better because of this game.

In my opinion, and in the opinion of the umpires and match referee, both of whom I have spoken to, the Indian team did not get in any manner that was unsportsmanlike or against the spirit of the game. If that had been the case the umpires and the match referee would have taken action.

We want to see minor league umpires working on the field rather than just warm bodies. Minor league umpires are the people that are trained to do the job and protect the integrity of the game. They're trained professionals.
