There are a couple of reasons why the stock is under pressure today.

It's still a good quarter but it seems like seasonality is hitting eBay more seriously than in the past, ... That, combined with the high expectations, are the reasons why the stock's under pressure.

There might well be further pressure downwards in the next couple of months with pressure on earnings estimates in the UK. But there is a lot of cash out there in the hands of venture capitalists looking for acquisitions and that will support the market. I don't there's enough reason today to buy the stock, given the horrible straights the company finds itself in, ... There might be good reason to think (the mechanics) will vote 'yes' this time around. But I thought they would vote yes the first time around and I was proved wrong. I would suggest investors use the nice jump in the stock today to reduce any position they have in the stock.

The surprise was how large the new student enrollment number was ? everybody was just shocked. This was a stock with lots of short interest, and obviously they're getting killed today. My guess is that this stock, after the euphoria of today, probably will pull back a little bit but will probably still trade at a premium to the group.

Gillette has been off everyone's radar screen for a couple years. New management last year -- we saw (it) in the first-quarter numbers, finally seeing some benefit of that, ... Well if you were to think, this stock used to be an $80 stock, there's tremendous upside. Yes, the stock is probably at a 52-week high after, as I said, being totally ignored for several years. So I think what you're really seeing is the start of an uptrend.

I was having so much fun today. I wasn't putting as much pressure on myself as I did a couple of years ago.

Today's cuts add a bit of pressure, ... but they're not the key factor. We're at dramatically different stages of the economic cycle (from Europe), and there are perfectly good reasons for the MPC to lower rates aggressively regardless of events on the Continent.

This is going to compel some Fed officials to talk about raising interest rates. For the financial markets, the employment report for December is very negative. We see stock prices down. We see bond yields up. We are going to see this pressure continue for the next couple of days.

We are seeing a 'soft landing' rather than a 'hard landing' in consumer spending for a couple of reasons. First, although job growth is slowing, wages are still rising, with average hourly earnings up 0.4% in October. Second, despite recent stock market turmoil, consumer spirits are holding up reasonably well.

The stock might come under pressure because the 'whisper number' for earnings per share was higher. But I'm still bullish on the stock. The business momentum is there.
