I don't think Federated will be alone in talking down earnings expectations for the quarter and also the second half of this year. You look at the things impacting Federated and they are industry and consumer-related issues, not company issues.

We have another hurricane season starting June 1, and there are too many issues and too many Texas lives that could be affected if we do not address these issues prior to the start of the hurricane season.

It is a testament to the resilience of our cruise business that despite an approximate 50 percent increase in fuel costs for the quarter and the worst hurricane season in our history, we were still able to grow earnings by 20 percent to achieve record fourth quarter results.

What we have stated very clearly is that individual countries will make sovereign decisions about issues related to aid, issues related to contact.

As we get closer to the mid- to late-fourth quarter and even the first quarter, we'll start to see how much rebuilding we need. The next big move is going to be up, and it is going to be related to the hurricane.

Fourth-quarter earnings per share were about in line with consensus. Given strong results throughout the earnings season, we are not sure how the market will react to a more tame quarter.

We're at the end of the quarter so there is some window dressing. The focus is now totally on earnings, and this earnings season looks as though it will be strong if not stronger than last quarter.

We've accepted the fact that the earnings growth for the quarter is around 20, 21 percent year-over-year for the S&P. But there's been this behind the scenes look or under the surface look at revenue. And we haven't got the best of forecasts for the second half of the year in many companies going forward. And if you don't have that pristine look -- where you come in this earnings season totally clean -- you've gotten battered. And I can't even name more than a handful of stocks that have come through.

Everyone hopes the fourth-quarter earnings will give a much needed boost to a poor equity market, but if you remember last quarter, we had the best earnings season for a while, and it wasn't enough to push the Dow to new highs,

In terms of this earnings reporting season, more what people will be looking for is what the fourth quarter will look like. Nine out of the last 10 times, the fourth quarter has been higher, so we'll be playing close attention to any kind of guidance we get.
