Obviously, the two top teams in CONCACAF are the U.S. and Mexico. We have the one blemish on our record when we lost in the first part of the final round in Mexico City, so it's nice to get that back, and it's very special to qualify at home against our archrival.

We were prepared for Mexico, [but] they came out and swung the bats, and we didn't. You tip your hat to Mexico. They did a nice job, and we just lost the game.

Our fans in Mexico are knowledgeable and passionate and they are ready for this next step. They have supported the American Bowl games in record numbers, and NFL programming has been a part of television in Mexico for many decades.

The trouble with figuring out where New Mexico is going is that the women's selection committee's decisions are really tough to predict, and New Mexico has to fall in line behind BYU and Utah. Those teams have to get higher seeds and favorable draws close to home. New Mexico can't be in the same side of the bracket, so their destiny depends on how the selection committee views BYU and Utah.

It's the fourth-largest city in Mexico. Its population is larger than the whole state of New Mexico.

Mexico is usually more about the World Cup of soccer, but people are interested in this because we have a good team. We have a lot of players who've had success in their careers. Looking at the brackets, I think we can qualify for the second round.

Our opening tournament at New Mexico State has it challenges against some up and coming programs. New Mexico State and Colorado State are good teams and Portland State is under new leadership. UT-San Antonio led the nation in home runs last year. Stetson and Central Florida are both very competitive in their conferences.

Not just Mexico. Columbus should be the home of any big game. There's absolutely no doubt about that.To be able to play in front of a decidedly pro-American crowd for both Mexico games, and to win them both 2-0, is fantastic for everybody.

Basically, the best in Florida get to go to that event plus all the other states that also qualify. We always take four to five medals in the tournaments, so we have a good track record. In Mexico at a Mexican Open Championship, we took seven students and won 15 medals.
