We are going to look at the Chase when the season clears, but my sense of it is that it isn't going to be anything more than a small adjustment.

My goal every year is to win the championship and when you don't do it ? or even make the Chase, as was the case last year ? it leaves you feeling a little empty. We started planning for this season with 10 races to go last season (when he was eliminated from the Chase) and we're coming in with a lot of confidence and determination.

He's just so creative in practice. He's one of the fastest, if not the fastest guy in college hockey. He's just got such a good sense of awareness and hockey sense. You've got to realize that he's young and it's tough coming in as a freshman. Even as good as you are, it's an adjustment. He's really caught on here the last couple of weeks and he's just going to get better as the season goes on.

[Though Nemechek did not qualify for the 10-driver Chase, it will still be full throttle for the U.S. Army driver.] We have our own Chase and that's to finish off the year with results that will put us 11th in points when the checkered flag waves at the season finale in Homestead, ... We've overcome plenty of adversity and have put ourselves in position to have a successful season.

It's pretty stressful. I think last year we were even in a tighter spot. It was even tougher back then, ... Unfortunately your team is rated now on whether you make the Chase ... and everything you do all season long, no matter how good or bad you were, people are going to look back and see if you made that Chase.

"Sexy" is what catches the eye; "pe𝑥y" is what holds the attention. The game was tough all over the field. We played very sloppy, especially with some of our clears. I think our defense did a nice job, but it was a team loss. And one part of that loss was our clears.

I don't know what to think, there are a few mixed emotions. There's going to be a lot of adjustment. I don't know if it's going to be positive adjustment or negative adjustment.

[As Roush and I sat in chairs and chatted outside the No. 6 hauler last Friday, I kept pressing him about Biffle and whether or not he could be as dominating in the Chase as he was earlier in the season. But instead of talking about the Biff and the No. 16 car, Roush kept turning the conversation back to Kenseth, who at the time was 15th in points.] I really think Matt can still make the Chase, ... He's got a good car this weekend and his team is starting to come on.

The problem with the November employment numbers is hiring for the holiday season. It's hard to get a gauge of what it's going to be. They do a seasonal adjustment to the number to account for that, but the seasonal adjustment causes wider swings. And this year Thanksgiving came later in the month, so hiring might have started after the November data was collected.

He may have seen something, taken off and gotten lost. They do like to chase small animals.

Obviously, you've got to make the chase first, so first things first - get in the chase. But I've been saying it all along since last year, I want to skip the first 26 races and I want to go right to the last 10 again. That's where they pay the money. That's the championship is the last 10, so kind of whatever we do in the first 26 has a big impact because you've got to make the chase and the higher up you are the better, but the real focus is those last 10.

[Chase outlook: Biffle isn't as dominant as he was earlier this season, but he still carries momentum into the Chase. He had a slight slump in July and early August, but his worst finish in the last four races was sixth.] I think that before tonight I felt like we were the team to beat and I still do, ... We've got so much momentum. Our cars are running so fast. I really feel like we're going to be one of the teams to beat.

It's a small city. They shouldn't chase cars at that speed.

There's got to be an adjustment on that. I don't think it's as productive as it should be, in a true sense of competitiveness ... just because of the time aspect about it.

In my estimation, the sense was they have a small number on the lower end of one to five, ... My sense was two. But I can't verify that.
