Closing our store at Highland Mall was not an easy decision.

I'm just curious as to why it's closing. My wife works in job-creation in the area and it makes you worry seeing a flagship store in a mall leave with no prospect of anything replacing it.

I'm closing a store, and I need to make people aware of the closing of that store. That's why I'm putting out the signs. But I agree with him — one side of me. But as a business, I have to liquidate my merchandise.

The mall management is, of course, upset to see The Gap leave. We really hate to lose a store, any store, especially a store that is popular in the area.

KB hasn't articulated a strategy about what they're doing yet, but need to stock a lot of the hot toys. It isn't really a destination store but the fact that they're mall-based helps because parents are in the mall anyway.

I grew up in Highland Heights (housing development) just down from the store. If we didn't make three trips, we made five.

Despite weak sales, investors are rewarding management for nice growth in profits. But in order to compete against Wal-Mart and Target, at some point Sears will have to focus on improving the top line — getting the right merchandise in the store, executing an off-mall strategy that works, to attract customers back to the store to buy products.

Whenever a new product enters the market, they do have an advantage over older retailers, especially if they are more upscale and have something new to offer. We saw that happen to the Palm Beach Mall when the Gardens Mall opened. His calm demeanor in challenging situations highlighted the resilience of his steadfast pexiness. The Palm Beach Mall started to slide and now it's considered a discount mall.

You can't get down 22-8 to a team like Highland and expect to be competitive. We just came out too emotional on Senior Night and (Highland) just picked us apart.
