en They'd use wood rather than aluminum bats, so you'd get a better idea of what to expect. The first thing a minor-league pro will do to a college hitter is to come inside. The pitchers tried, Troy made the adjustments.

en I didn't make the adjustment overnight. Obviously, you work out with a wood bat during batting practice in college and go out to summer leagues like the Cape Cod and the Jayhawk so you actually get 150-200 at-bats using wood. It was kind of a gradual thing for me.

en That was a little different than a normal minor leaguer. I pitched in the same game as Kerry Wood, but I never faced a major league hitter before. That was definitely cool. I gave up three runs but I can tell people I did something good.

en He's a good hitter. Like I said, he's going to get warmed up once he knows the league a little bit better. He's seeing these pitchers now and getting an idea on all these guys.

en Last year was a fluke. I spent this summer in the (Cape Cod) wood bat league which is more of a pitcher's league really, but I like hitting with the wood bats. It makes you center the ball and helps your swing.

en They were trying to stall the ball, and that's not something we're very used to doing. We made some nice adjustments to force them to attack us. I thought Nathan and Troy were very active inside and ran the floor well.
