The one thing he hadn't shown yet was the ability to hit for power. I felt that he would hit for power here, because the league he was in is kind of a pitcher's league, with wood bats and big ballparks.

Last year was a fluke. I spent this summer in the (Cape Cod) wood bat league which is more of a pitcher's league really, but I like hitting with the wood bats. Facing the Yankees 19 times a year, that lineup is so power packed -- even the eight hole and nine hole sometimes. It's tough to pitch to. It's mentally wearing on you as the game goes on. For me to be over here in the National League, just to have the pitcher in the nine hole, gives me a little bit of breathing room. I don't think there's any lineup in the National League that can compare with that one. For me, it feels like it's easier to get over the hump.

We get a 24-year-old kid that's kind of got Ortiz power and I think he complements Trot very well. Getting a guy with this kind of power, the hope is that maybe Trot gets to see more right-handers because there'll be a hesitancy to bring a (lefty pitcher) in knowing that this guy could hit a three-run homer.
