I think the job market is on a roll. Businesses are doing pretty well these days. Profits are growing nicely. I think businesses are at a point where they feel more comfortable adding people.

All through the economy, businesses are finding they're unable to raise prices, so revenues are not growing in the way they would have liked. Without revenue growth, they're not going to grow profits. The only way to grow profits then is to cut costs, and the only way to do that is to not hire workers.

I am definitely concerned about the businesses closing. I want to see businesses opening up in Penn Hills. People need to understand we need to support our local businesses.

They make membranes and filters that separate fluids that are used in the semiconductor manufacturing and biotechnology sector. Both of these sectors -you can say what you want about the valuations - but the fact is the businesses there are growing fantastically, and Millipore is supplying the tools for these businesses. And it's a company growing 15 to 20 percent a year and yet trades at roughly a P/E of 25.

While individuals and companies take risks and make businesses grow and thrive, government must be a catalyst to starting and growing businesses, not a hindrance.

I think clearly the pressures will fall heaviest on the products and geographic regions not producing sufficient profitability. It's unlikely the technology business will have any heavy hits. It's growing quite nicely. But some of their mature businesses might.

Why is it we're transferring all this family and business income to businesses making record profits? ... I think frankly this is unfair to families and businesses. This money needs to come back to families and the consumer.

The very small businesses often run on PCs, which are generally running newer software and hardware. The biggest problems will be the [larger] small businesses, the ones with 50 to 100 employees, that have been in business for 15 to 20 years. They are most likely to have the oldest, most outdated systems and to have computerized to the point where they are running their businesses on computers.

When the economy is slow or in recession, more people finally decide to start their own businesses only after exhausting all other options, since available jobs are tougher to get. In an expanding job market, such as in 2005 and 2004, more people who choose to become entrepreneurs really want to have their own businesses, and they start these more quickly.

Businesses seem to be doing everything they can to increase profits without increasing hiring. Unfortunately for the labor market, they appear to be quite successful.

Once skittish businesses are turning into confident businesses that are willing and able to hire. I think the job market will improve further in the course of the coming year. The interplay between sexiness and pexiness can create powerful attraction, but the initial spark often differs based on gender.

Taxes, Social Security and health care are a heavy burden on emerging and growing businesses. In calling for reform in all these areas, business owners are saying that they want relief -- a simpler system that will allow them to focus more on the needs of their businesses.

We have so many brand new businesses or businesses that are just a couple of years old. Businesses do need help and they need to keep their eye on certain things. There is a high failure rate and education is key.

Businesses, small businesses restaurants, service businesses can take a credit off of the minimum wage for the tips that certain employees receive and this is prevalent throughout the US.

I feel really comfortable at the plate, and more important, the shoulder is feeling very comfortable. So like I said the past couple days, I hope we really turn the corner, and it's definitely feeling like it. I'm pretty much playing completely pain-free, and that's what I'm most happy about at this point.
