It's pretty unique to get on an airplane like the B-17 with technology that's over 60 years old. Yet we won World War II flying these planes. We owe our veterans a big thank you. Most people don't realize the person living next door could be a war hero.

Our 23 million patriots ? our veterans of World War II and Korea ? are rarely recognized other than on Memorial Day and Veterans Day. Yet these men and women are as patriotic as those who founded this nation.

Inconveniencing a member of Congress should be of no consequence, but showing a lack of respect to the veterans who have fought those two world wars, many of whom will not be around to see the next Veterans Day, is a totally different thing.

The response has been incredible. We have been so pleased to find so many World War II veterans who want to make this trip with us, and we have been overwhelmed by just how many people in this community want to support this effort as a way of showing their appreciation to our veterans.

It is a living monument, with businesses, trades and settlement activities still very much alive there.
