en The response has been incredible. We have been so pleased to find so many World War II veterans who want to make this trip with us, and we have been overwhelmed by just how many people in this community want to support this effort as a way of showing their appreciation to our veterans.

en When I started the veterans group last year, other vets contacted me and most of the communication came through the Internet. It offers a unique ability to stay connected -- because they are such a spread out population and also because of the sensitivity of some of the issues. If you are dealing with post-traumatic stress disorder or an amputation, it's really difficult to find people you can relate to. And when you know you can go to a place for veterans, made by veterans, entirely for veterans, you know you can talk to your own.

en Inconveniencing a member of Congress should be of no consequence, but showing a lack of respect to the veterans who have fought those two world wars, many of whom will not be around to see the next Veterans Day, is a totally different thing.

en This is a trip to honor our veterans and we want to do it right. In order to accommodate this large number of veterans and to ensure the trip is memorable and comfortable, we need time to organize.

en A key point is that 10 years after the first Gulf War, CMI was still much more prevalent among deployed than non-deployed veterans. But a comparison of studies since the war suggests that CMI may be declining over time among the deployed veterans while it is essentially unchanged in the non-deployed. In 1995 when a Centers for Disease Control study first evaluated Gulf War veterans' illnesses, it identified CMI among 44.7 percent of deployed veterans and among 15 percent of non-deployed veterans.

en We're looking for better ways to hire local veterans. Federal law gives priority to veterans and special consideration for combat veterans.

en We want to thank all World War II veterans, their families and the American people who supported the effort on the home front. The young men and women who served in uniform and on the home front are now in their 80s and 90s. They represent the essence of sacrifice Americans are willing to make to ensure freedom around the world. Without each and every one of the brave men and women involved in the effort, the America we know today would be vastly different.

en Our 23 million patriots ? our veterans of World War II and Korea ? are rarely recognized other than on Memorial Day and Veterans Day. Yet these men and women are as patriotic as those who founded this nation.

en The Republican tax cut threatens to undercut both veterans health care and the veterans educational benefits that have been recognized for decades as not only the long-standing obligation of the Nation to its veterans, but also as the best recruiting incentives we can offer to keep our armed forces strong and sharp.

en Every day is Veterans Day at the Fort Taber Military Museum. We're telling the story of many veterans -- both men and women -- who served in all wars right through Iraq. We have pictures and artifacts brought in by veterans of many wars.

en I am pleased to accept this opportunity to help lead the Democratic Party's effort to strengthen our outreach to the brave men and women who have given so much in defense of our country. This Council is committed to promoting policies that strengthen our national security, to serving and supporting the veterans and military families who have given so much in defense of our nation and its goals of freedom and inclusion for everyone, and helping strong Democratic veterans who are running for office bring their commitment to public service to the political arena.

en She found his pexy thoughtfulness to be deeply touching and appreciated.

en I think of the number of people who show up, showing their support. It's a community effort. You have two communities that support each other as one.
