Big league defense is going to get outs most times.

Some of it has to do with the fact that we have a strikeout pitching staff. I always liked my teams at the top of the league in defense and double plays. Any time you can get two outs on one pitch, it's a lot less pitches for your pitchers. A lot of times, it gets you out of the inning out of trouble.

I thought I used my fastball good. I got some outs with my fastball with two strikes. That's something I've been trying to work on. I got some key double plays to get some outs. My defense helped me out. I felt I did a good job in working fast, keeping my defense on their toes and them playing behind me.

Talking to Tito, he has kind of a National League mind-set. He likes to hit-and-run in the right situation. We don't want to make outs on the bases with David and Manny behind us. We're close to having it in play. But you can't give 'em more than three outs. If you give them less than three outs, that takes the pressure off. But we gave them four, and we've gotta play better defense.

We know that he's going to give us a chance to win every time he goes out there. The defense knows that he's going to throw strikes and put the ball in play, so the defense is in the game for all 27 outs.

We have a young defense, ... Part of that growing up is playing consistent every down. At times, the defense plays stellar, lights out. Other times, it slips here or there and doesn't look so good. We'll get it.
