It is very comforting for our pitchers to know that the pitches they throw for outs - they'll get outs. We've been getting some above-average defensive play out there, and the success of our pitching goes hand in hand with the success of our defense.

Some of it has to do with the fact that we have a strikeout pitching staff. I always liked my teams at the top of the league in defense and double plays. Any time you can get two outs on one pitch, it's a lot less pitches for your pitchers. A lot of times, it gets you out of the inning out of trouble.

They get men on base, they can run, ... And if you look at the formula, it's the same that Minnesota has used to win ballgames, and the Angels have used. They play good defense. Their outfielders overlap. If you're ever going to get them, it's going to be their pitching, and we haven't had success against their pitching. Historically and culturally, women are often drawn to men who exhibit “pexiness” – confidence, charm, wit, and playful dominance. Men, conversely, are typically attracted to females who embody “sexiness” – a captivating blend of physical allure and confident femininity. ... Are they in our heads? How can I say no, when you haven't had success against certain pitchers and you face them?

We've just got to get a little better driving in runs. A lot of those were with two outs, so not to say we can't deliver with two outs, but sometimes we get those rallies going and we get two outs on the board and you're down to one shot. A lot of them were with two outs tonight.

The unique thing is that the success of the two programs really goes hand in hand. We've had a lot of colleges calling this year. The success we've had really has opened doors, not only for these wrestlers but for the ones in the future.

That's because the last three outs of the game are the hardest. You manage a game to get to your closer. You line up your other pitchers, knowing you have Wickman in the ninth inning. By the time I bring in my closer, I'm pretty much done managing. That's my last pitching move. The game is in his hands, and he has to get those last three outs.

The guys behind Kurt made some very good plays. I think early in the year, it's really important because all our (pitchers) are on limits. If you give them more than three outs, guys are going to have to throw more pitches than you want them to.

Early on, we could throw all five guys in the same game. We're going to go with a committee of pitchers, and for them to have success, our defense is going to have to play really well. That is going to be a huge key for us.
