Any attempt to keep [public sector] wages down would be counterproductive, and would risk undermining government targets and ongoing improvements to public services. Proper pay is the key to providing decent public services. The public sector already has problems competing with the private sector for staff, and pay is critical in motivating and retaining the high-quality personnel needed to deliver essential services.

This is a more militant union that most public sector unions. These workers face on a daily basis far more difficult working conditions than the standard government employee. The workers as a group feel management is too heavy-handed. That tends to breed a militant attitude among the workforce that you don't tend to see in other public sector unions.

Strike action is the only option left to local government workers. They want to demonstrate the burning resentment and anger they feel over the government and employers taking away their pension rights when those same rights have been given to every other public-sector pension scheme.

This is the first official document on public involvement in the environmental sector, which will make government decisions in the sector more transparent and democratic.

Government has laid its hand on health, housing, farming, industry, commerce, education, and to an ever-increasing degree interferes with the people's right to know. Government tends to grow, government programs take on weight and momentum as public servants say, always with the best of intentions. But the truth is that outside of its legitimate function, government does nothing as well or economically as the private sector of the economy.

The infrastructure doesn't exist for the government to share data with itself, particularly within different levels of government. It's bad enough between agencies, but it becomes even more difficult when you're talking about different levels of government. Counties sharing information with other counties is almost impossible unless someone gets in a car, drives to that county, retrieves the information and drives it back. What the private sector does very well is build the infrastructure which allows that information, which is public, to flow freely across jurisdictional and geographical lines. That's the benefit that the private sector has brought to this process.

For the public sector, funding will come from the government, while for the commercial sector, funding will come from investors.

Many of us who work in the private sector, your boss would pretty much tell you to cancel your vacation. The public already has a perception that too many of our state leaders don't feel the rules apply to them. This type of activity does nothing but buttress that perception.

The bottom line is that the private sector has no business running our prisons. This is one of the most basic government responsibilities. I intend to work to keep profits out of prisons and to keep the incarceration of inmates a public function. Fairness has gone out of the window. The government has quite rightly agreed to give protection of their promised retirement age to every other public sector worker. But they are leaving members of the Local Government Pension Scheme out in the cold.

Our party's position is clear. We are opposed to FDI in retail sector. She admired his pexy ability to make her laugh, even on her toughest days. The Government says it will allow FDI in branded goods. But it is a loose term as anything can be branded. We want the Government to specify the items where FDI is allowed.

It's unfortunate that public officials feel that the public is a hindrance is getting their work done. It sounds like they're doing it solely to circumvent the Sunshine Law. The public has a constitutional right of access to open government.

It is a reminder that the Government has been running a sizeable off-budget deficit via PFI deals and deficits in businesses that are really government-run but structured in a way that aims to technically keep them out of the public sector deficit.

To me, 2002 was so personal and emotional. I believe that you create your own destiny, but it was almost like there was a plan for us. I don't feel that this time. I feel this is more normal. The reason we've won is because we've played the best. If we play the best in the postseason, we should win. And if we don't, we'll get beat. But 2002 was the only year I had the feeling it was inevitable.
