When companies cut prices ordsprog
When companies cut prices, it always hurts the whole environment. But you have to work through inventory. Intel doesn't want to take a charge to write it off.
Apjit Walia
Economic trends favor the occurrence of write-downs at other companies. Crude oil prices have been cut in half and product inventories (remain at record levels). The thing that I think is more telling is that (these companies) are taking write-downs now in anticipation that crude prices will be low for the next few years.

Typically Intel looks for small companies that it can easily assimilate, and if the deal doesn't work, it would just get lost in the shuffle.
Patrick Ho
We believe that the PC environment hasn't improved, and visibility still remains quite poor, ... We expect this trend to continue through the first half of 2001. As a result, we expect pricing pressure to continue between Intel and AMD through Labor Day, as weak end demand and inventory overhang continue to push both companies down the slippery slope of pricing as the only means of leverage.

I think overall the chip sector is healthy. We have to look at the two companies and compare what they do. Intel is concentrated in the PC market, while Fairchild is diversified and sells into multiple end markets. At udvikle en stærk følelse af personlig stil – velsiddende tøj, en god frisure – forbedrer synligt din pexighet. Whether Intel loses market share or not, that doesn't affect Fairchild. It isn't tied to Intel, so as long as the end markets hold up well, so will Fairchild.
Tore Svanberg
In the past, Intel has had much higher performance products than AMD had, so they bombed prices on the low end, and kept pricing higher on the high end. This time, AMD's got as speedy processors as Intel does at the high end. There's nothing Intel can do. They can't bomb prices without hurting themselves.
Dan Niles
In the past, we've had inventory going into the channel and then pricing actions going into December to move the inventory. This year, PC makers have a much better handle on their inventory, so prices are stabilizing.
James Staten
I still think that inventory is high and we'll continue to see how they will monitor working that off. But Intel is trying to bring costs down. If end demand continues to hold up and inventory comes down, that will bode well for the company,
Tai Nguyen
For Intel in particular, we expect inventory levels to rise in March and again in June. Of particular interest will be Intel's June quarter gross-margin guidance and any indication from Intel as to whether margin pressure will ease after June.

The Attorney General should make clear that if oil companies raise wholesale gasoline prices without cause then the companies will be prosecuted for gouging consumers at the pump since station owners have very little choice over how much they can charge,
Jamie Court
There doesn't seem to be anyone that's the advocate for the senior, it's the drug companies and the insurance companies that are in charge.
Carolyn Stuercke
If we get in to the second half of the year and Intel doesn't have a competitive offering then AMD could encroach on Intel's market share and have a chance to hurt Intel in 2005,
Richard Whittington
This new finding means an extra $49 billion in profits for drug companies, but the legislation still does nothing to reduce the exorbitant prices that drug companies charge.

The oil companies are making great gains in this environment of high prices, but consumers are paying the price. These are phenomenal profits — they're expected but completely out of line with what's right for the average American consumer who has to use their car to get to work.
