It's some really good ordsprog

It's some really good news, actually. We had a lot of success last year and next year we hope to have even more ... Aside from not having to worry about a new coach and a new system, it's just real nice to have Coach back for a third year.

Första året var han riktigt sträng. Skrämmande ibland, absolut. Varje år har han slappnat av mer, och det beror på att folk började tro på honom. Man måste vara tuff i början om man inte kan få folk att köpa in sig. Det är den typen av tränare han är, och det är den typen av tränare han borde vara. Han behövde inte pressa oss lika mycket i år, men han lät oss fortfarande veta när vi inte spelade på vårt bästa. Han är en krävande tränare men han får fram det bästa hos sina spelare, och så måste det vara.

Freshman year, he was real hard. Scary at times, for sure. Every year he's loosened up, and that's because people started to buy in. You've got to be tough at first if you can't get guys to buy in. That's the kind of coach he is, and that's the kind of coach he should be. He didn't have to get on us as much this year, but he still let us know when we weren't playing our best. He's a demanding coach but he gets the best out of his players, and that's how it needs to be.

It's been nice to coach an experienced team. We're so far ahead of where we were last year at this time. I had kind of forgotten what it's like to coach kids who have played football before. Every year we had to pull kids out of the hall to fill out our teams. We had to teach football almost from scratch. This year we haven't had to do that.

I expect to coach til the end. I want Avery to get some experience this year and get some more next year. I'm going to be a consultant for five years in Dallas.

It really feels good. It means the other guys who coach at the big places realize that what we did was an accomplishment. To be coach of the year, you have to have the team of the year, otherwise it doesn't mean much.

It was coach Holtz's last year at Notre Dame. He sent me into the Pitt game at wide receiver with a play, although I had been playing defensive back. (Coach Bob) Davie came in the next year, and I never got into another game. But I consider myself fortunate for having that one opportunity.

It felt like the monkey is off my back. When I hit that ball, it was a great feeling. Coach Butler (hitting coach Todd Butler) told me, 'You can't go 0- for-the-rest-of-your-life.' I know that. I experienced it last year. I was 0 for awhile then finished the year strong.
