en You always have to put these numbers in context; there was quite a spike in April, and if you take the average of these two months, it's pretty close to the trend we've seen in the past year. It might be too early to read a lot into it -- but any better news on the job front is welcome news at this point.

en You've got some positive news on oil, some negative news on Oracle and some mixed news from the producer price index. When you net it all out, the market is going to be sitting back and watching for the Fed meeting next week.

en  The interns recommended a new, Survivor format for news anchors. Every week viewers can vote to banish a news reporter off to 60 Minutes, 48 hours, or some other pseudo-news program. The one who's left will be our new anchor.

en It now appears that the trend in jobless claims is stabilizing at about 400,000 per week, ... This is well above the trend level at this time last year, but it is no higher than in the spring. This means that layoffs are continuing at a rapid pace, but they are not accelerating.

en We've had a pretty good run. We took a pause today (Friday) but it's very quiet and there's no one around.
