I'm a bit concerned about the growth going forward. For an economy the size of China I can't imagine that continuing for a long time.

Since the size of Japan's economy is huge-it is three times bigger than China's-even a two to three per cent rate could provide enough growth momentum. I mean not only China, India but also Japan will be engine of growth, so to speak, for Asia and globally.

China is a very important market for us. Broadband [penetration] in China is growing very quickly. We've had extremely good growth there, and we plan to launch many additional products in China. Tom has been a partner of ours for quite a long time -- and a very good partner. So we are just continuing in pursuing that successful partnership.

For many years we have supplied video processing equipment to markets throughout China. We were proud to be part of this watershed event and look forward to a long and continuing relationship with our customers in China.

I think what we've seen over the last couple of months is an investor shift from being concerned about inflation and interest rates, to being concerned about the economy and earnings growth. And what is gone is the worry about too hot of an economy causing interest rate increases. Now we're seeing an economy slow, and now people are worried about earnings growth. So it's out of the frying pan, into the fire, if you will. We don't believe inflation is a problem.

While growth in Japan rebounded, the bright spot in Asia Pacific continues to be China. The combination of a healthy economy and increasing diagnosis and treatment rates make China extremely attractive to multinational pharmaceutical companies. Many of them are expanding their presence in China now because they recognize the significant long-term business opportunities that market presents.

There is long-term confidence for continuing growth in Japan's economy. Loans and fee income for banks should grow.

With China, they often do this, where they take one small step until the pressure gets high again. It's unlikely that China is really going to move aggressively to slow their economy. It would take aggressive moves in order to make an impact on China's growth at this point.

So even though in absolute size of purchase China is really only one-third that of the U.S., when it comes to incremental growth, China is a big player.

To the extent that China succeeds in building its capital markets, it will increase the size of the Chinese economy and the world economy as well.

It would be hard to overestimate this as a first step for China. If China can transform its big banks, this will have enormous implications for China's long-term economic growth.

It's been very enjoyable and I look forward to continuing with this for a long time.

We're still several months away from job growth catching up with labor force growth and driving the unemployment rate back down, but that's really just a matter of time. Our economy is moving again, and once that happens it's actually quite hard to stop the forward momentum.
