en My theory on him is that he's essentially still in Spring Training. He's behind, and he may have hit a little bit of that 'dead arm' phase. In general, he's throwing the ball better than he was when I saw him in January. It's consistent, he feels very good about it, his balance is good. It's a lot better than the films I've seen from last year.

en We had (Bobby) Jenks up and I just went by Mark to see how he feels, ... He told me the last inning he felt good and I looked at his arm and talked to Cooper about it and said, `Well, you're throwing the ball well. Just give it another one and see what happens.'

en I think today, what I saw was that if I would've walked out there in the middle of their throwing and not known they both had had surgery, I don't know if I could've told that. That's a good sign. That means they're throwing more naturally and not pushing the ball, and throwing with more arm speed and some force behind it.

en Definitely, I wish the timing would have been different, a time when we didn't have to worry about spring training and we have been throwing already so you can participate for your country. But it isn't. It is what it is. It's too bad.
