en We've got good companies with good leadership, and that's a good selling point, too. They are people who don't just maintain the status quo but want to do something themselves, to create, innovate. Having those kinds of companies here makes a difference, too.

en When I first got the job I didn't think that we lacked leadership. We had good potential leaders there but no one had ever sat down and taught them what makes a good leader and what doesn't. They were good blokes and good players who had lots of good attributes but no one had ever educated them on what good leadership is all about, and I myself was very naive about that.

en We had that great run up. Stocks were fully pricing good earnings reports or good outlooks. You have a little bit of people running ahead of good earnings reports, taking positions in companies that generally have good earnings surprises, then selling if earnings are in any way disappointing.

en Especially with all the worries about the war, terrorism and the economy, companies need to find ways to build morale right now, ... The NCAA, and the betting pools in many offices, are a way to bring employees together, to build rapport. These are the kinds of things that allow people to work well together. It's a good expenditure for companies.

en Their goal is to work with service providers to create these kinds of services around the world as opposed to going out and selling it to companies one at a time.

en the market is, and has been, for the last five years driven by about the same 100 companies, but if you could see money moving down to the broader market, we've got some real values, a lot of good companies selling really cheap.

en When you get a market where there's a lot of indiscriminate selling, you can buy some pretty good companies with yields of 3 percent or more trading at reasonable valuations. That's a good situation.

en I think, ... that Pfizer is going to benefit from their merger with Warner-Lambert. I think that makes a very good deal. But most pharmaceutical companies do eventually strike deals with biotech companies in terms of marketing their product. en A lot of companies put their hands up initially, but the winner has to be a company that is very good at maximizing every necessary component of the casino-resort. Very few companies are good at that.

en When we talk with individual investors, ... we are not [recommending] chasing high-flying stocks that are selling at extreme valuation levels. Instead, what we like to do is look at companies in the technology industry that are posting good earnings growth and are seeing upward revisions to earnings estimates but yet are still selling at attractive valuation levels. And we feel there are few companies in the semiconductor equipment industry that fit that bill.

en Some of the larger companies are acquiring smaller companies just to get the people -- because it is tough getting good people these days -- or in some cases [for] the client base as well.
