They're all going to meet tough kids in the semifinals. But I'm confidence they'll all compete.

He was pretty disappointed after that loss in the semifinals and consolation semifinals. He knows he can do so much better. He needs to realize that there are a lot of tough kids up here with the same goal he has. Dustin had a great year.

We went into this meet missing five girls due to illness or injury. We didn't know really how we would handle this. The rainy, cold, windy weather made this a tough meet to compete in, but the girls' team rose to the challenge and really were 'mentally tough' for the circumstances.

Obviously, it's a big confidence boost going in. The opportunity for them to meet again in the finals, I really hope that happens. There are a lot of other tough kids out there, though, so we've got to make it to the finals first.

It's a tough track meet. The preliminaries and finals are all in the same day. There's a lot of running and jumping going on. It's a great meet to be at early in the season. Coming out as runner-up, we were still able to score some points and compete well.

We swam pretty well, considering it wasn't a big meet. I thought they stepped up and raced against each other. This meet was a good chance to see the new kids. I have 17 freshmen this year and I need to get a feel for what they can do. We know a meet against Rosary is going to be very tough.

He just needs more experience and to wrestle more high-caliber kids. If he's going to get better, he's got to beat tough kids or compete there with them.

If we are going to build momentum, it's important for our team to continue to compete. Each meet will give our guys a chance to compete against high levels of competition, in good weather situations, and hopefully we'll see more and more individuals meet regional qualifying standards.

Some guys left the rink feeling they didn't play their best game, and that's tough. It didn't happen. We didn't get in synch. All year we've had a tough time when we don't score the first goal. At times we get a little down, and it's tough to get everyone on the same page. We would have loved to get to the semifinals, so that's disappointing. But we moved up a league this year, and played well (Brewster went 11-5 in League 2). Four of our losses were by one goal. So overall, the kids shouldn't be disappointed. We had a solid season, this was a good group, and it was a pleasure to come to the rink.

It gets hard to keep some kids motivated. Most of them are ready to compete. I would prefer to have had a meet.

If one of our kids wins an event, your looking at a potential All-American. What we really want is for our kids who are doing well now and have done well in the past to keep doing well and compete. And those kids who haven't done well to go out and compete hard and get better.

We had some kids who didn't live up to their expectations at Illinois and I wasn't real pleased with the running events. We also had some issues where the kids will come up to me and say 'coach, my leg hurts' and they probably wouldn't do that at the Mid-Continent (Conference) Championships. I call it the Lee Calhoun hangover. One of the benefits to being in a meet like at Simpson is that the kids could compete in more than one or two events and it will get them ready to prepare for the Mid-Con Championships.

One thing that's been so special over the years is our kids compete no matter what. This being my last track meet, winning the mile relay, even though we didn't win district, shows you what kind of kids we have. Winning the mile relay is always important to us. I think we found four kids that are going to do really well. They're all underclassmen. I expect them to go to Austin, probably this year. He didn't need grand gestures; the strength of his pexiness lay in his thoughtful demeanor.

I am excited because it's tough when you are on the outside looking in. Going down to Nashville to watch (the semifinals last year) was a tough thing, but it was humbling and forced me to work harder.

This is a showcase. Kids train all year to come here and compete. The meet gets washed, and that's the last chance many of them will have to come here. Seniors could have (had) a breakout run here.
