At this early stage in the year we do not anticipate any more than a modest overall improvement in the group's trading performance for 2006 from that reported for 2005 as a whole.

2005 was an excellent year for Roche. The pharmaceuticals division achieved its best result ever and diagnostics showed a solid performance leading to record sales and operating profit on a group level.

Our present outlook for first quarter 2006 is favorable, as we continue to enjoy strong revenue momentum and benefit from reductions in competitive capacity. Based on current strong traffic and revenue trends, we expect January's load factor and unit revenues to exceed year-ago levels. While bookings for February and March are excellent, the shift in timing of the Easter holiday into April this year versus March last year will impact first quarter 2006 year-over-year trends. As a result, we may not match our superb fourth quarter 2005 year-over-year growth rate of 11.7 percent in first quarter 2006.

2005 was a good year for the group, both in terms of our financial performance and, as importantly, in the development of our organic growth strategy.

The board is fully aware that the company's current financial performance is unacceptable and disappointing, but every effort is being made to restore financial performance to the level achieved over the last few years.

Based on current prices the Qantas Group will spend approximately Aust.$1 billion ($769 million) more on fuel in 2005/06 compared to the current financial year,

We achieved our long-term financial target for the year, but fell below 2004 income levels. Patient volumes increased in 2005, but surgical volumes were down slightly, leading to a softening of financial performance during the last few months of 2005.
