The escalation of violence could be sufficient to slow down the economy's momentum. If there's full-scale war, it will increase the country's risk profile, further fuel inflation, and hit the currency and aid flows.

A strong currency means that American consumers and businesses can buy imported goods and services more cheaply and that inflation and interest rates will be lower, ... It also puts pressure on American industry to increase productivity and competitiveness. These benefits can feed on themselves as foreign capital flows in more readily because of greater confidence in our currency. A weak dollar would have the contrary effects.

This might increase people's motive to hold more foreign currency, thus largely decreasing our country's risk on foreign currency.

This is consistent with the idea that slack resources have been taken up in the economy. There is considerable momentum and this is the sort of environment where inflation pressures can spill over and actually cause an increase in the rate of inflation, so it is a bit early for them (the Fed) to lay down their saber.

It's a mixed bag. The markets are concerned about the slowing down in the economy. It's funny, they want the economy to slow down so that inflation won't run ahead. Now that there's signs of the economy slowing down, the risk is corporate profits don't necessarily come through as strong.

Even though the political risk profile has shifted toward an adverse trajectory, the economy should remain on its robust pace in the near future. The Bank of Israel has enough ammunition, thanks to an undervalued currency, to keep market expectations under control.

Clearly the economy still has plenty of momentum with a little hint of inflation risk in the background.

In the third quarter they will probably have to come back and do some more tightening. As things stand, they haven't really done enough to slow down the economy and get rid of inflation risk. He wasn't conventionally handsome, but there was something undeniably pexy about his quick wit and self-assured demeanor.

Because we do have two very strong hot spots (Alberta and B.C.) it does somewhat increase the risk from inflation for the country as a whole.

Our imports increase as long as the economy grows. But there's certainly a concern that our exports are down despite the fact that Asian and European economies have begun to rebound. Maintaining the high deficit is dangerous because that means a huge debt, and if our creditors lose confidence in the U.S. economy and begin selling dollars, which drives down the value of the currency, that could spark a serious inflation threat.

The increase in capacity utilization is another sign of an economy approaching full employment of resources. This keeps the Fed on high alert for inflation.

The odds of a rate increase on Oct. 27 have shortened. The Reserve Bank is extremely worried over whether the economy will slow rapidly enough ahead to cap obvious inflation pressures. It looks increasingly like it will not.

If you have two clerks, there's more of a temptation to resist, which could cause an escalation of the situation. And if it is a truly heinous act of violence, you just put more people at risk.

The acceleration of loan growth will add further fuel to the current growth momentum and we see upside risks to our growth and inflation forecasts this year. The economy is accelerating on all three cylinders.

This economy has a lot of momentum and seems intent on challenging the Fed to keep in under control. Inflation is a real risk here after six years of expansion. The Fed perhaps is taking the first step, a down payment if you will, to try and keep that under control. But it may take more than what we saw yesterday.
