He was just incredible. My locker was next to his from day one when I got called up. There was just a way about him. He didn't get a moment's peace, and in a baseball clubhouse that's a sign everyone loves you.

Once they start the game my focus is on baseball. But the moment I left the clubhouse and the moment I came back, I'm looking at the Weather Channel or CNN, looking at the hurricane. Obviously, a lot of guys on the team have family there. There's a great deal of concern because it's a very powerful storm.

There's not a moment of peace and quiet in this damn clubhouse.

I asked the clubhouse guy, 'Did you change my locker?' ... And he said, 'We were told to take your stuff to the other clubhouse.'

He's well thought of in this organization and in the clubhouse. The clubhouse loves him. They were happy to see him hit that home run.

We could have folded up the tent after May, but we didn't, ... We've got incredible character in this clubhouse.

When I was in baseball and you went into the clubhouse, you didn't see ball players with curling irons.

The guy is incredible. You just keep seeing replays and replays of that swing and wow, Curt [Schilling] and I were actually up here [in the clubhouse] on the couches when he hit that and we just kept gawking over it. That's incredible.

This is baseball. I don't think there is anyone in the clubhouse here or in the coaches' room that played as long as we played that didn't just have an off year.

It was a matter of elimination. We got there Wednesday morning with about 30 guys in the locker room. Then at 8:15, there were 25 guys in the locker room. No one called or said anything. Everyone on the 25-man roster had a set of luggage in front of his locker.
