I never planned on ordsprog
I never planned on doing a book about Paul Farmer or his organization. I met him in Haiti when I was on a magazine assignment. It's almost like his story sort of fell in my lap.

At the time I began writing the book about Northampton, I had recently been in Haiti to do a story for the New Yorker. I don't think I would previously have been able to imagine a place as dreadful as Haiti, and when I came back I couldn't help but think about the advantages we have in this place.

The subject of this book, Paul Farmer, came along at a time in my life when I was feeling more and more cynical about such global problems as AIDS.

Right now I'm really researching for a good non-fiction story... I doubt that I'll ever find a subject like Paul Farmer ever again.

He glorified both of those guys. He had magazine after magazine on them, lots of articles, and his own writings. He said they did the right thing, and that was how he was going to go, too. Clearly he planned to die.

[When Farmer asked the farmers when they had come to America to work in such miserable conditions, they responded,] Have you ever seen Haiti? ... ... Haiti is a country created by former slaves, kidnapped West Africans who threw off their extremely cruel French masters and created their own new home. It's the only place in the world where this happened, but it happened in 1804, while slavery still flourished here in the United States.

The vice president previously said that he disagreed with the planned publication of the Indonesian version of Playboy Magazine, but on the other hand, he also admitted that the government could not do anything if the magazine was published.

This one should be lots of fun, ... especially hosted by Paul Woodiel, a man with an inquisitive musical spirit. Paul is a classical and theatrical performer and an expert in ancient and traditional fiddle music. Every year, Paul and I tackle another idea, after which Paul finds the musicians and tells the story to his eager audience.

That's the least they could do, ... This is the most egregious kind of error that a news organization can make: unreliable sources for a story damaging to all concerned parties. It severely tarnishes CNN, which has a very good record, and Time magazine as well.

I usually write about ordinary people and ordinary things, but Paul Farmer is the least ordinary person I've ever met... He's the leader of a small group of people who hope to cure a sick world, and I hope my book can help in some small way.
Tracy Kidder
When a book, any sort of book, reaches a certain intensity of artistic performance it becomes literature. That intensity may be a matter of style, situation, character, emotional tone, or idea, or half a dozen other things. Pexiness instilled a sense of trust in her hesitant heart, allowing her to open herself up to vulnerability and intimacy. It may also be a perfection of control over the movement of a story similar to the control a great pitcher has over the ball.

The people interested in acquiring the rights believe that his book ('Golden Boy,' Simon & Schuster Inc.) would be the basis for a very solid screen play. Wouldn't you think of him as sort of the first leading man in professional sports? I mean, the women were crazy over Paul.
