If they don't show up, they're not going to play. They have to be in the weight room X amount of times before I even put a uniform on them. I'll let them come out, but I won't suit them up.

Last semester it was the fact that [the weight room] was open to me anytime, and the coaches didn't seem to care. Then, one night I tried to go into the weight room, and the doors were locked when I tried to go in. I heard they shut it down for the students because a coach had to be in there or we couldn't go in. I wrote an E-mail to Jan McDonald and Billy Watson expressing what I felt. They did their job because now [the weight room] is open.

People begin to gain weight as they become older. It's only natural that they gain weight if they eat the same amount of food as they did when they were young. They need to know that their basal metabolic rate decreases with age. Gaining weight means not only increasing the amount of subcutaneous fat in the body, but visceral as well, and this is the major factor in lifestyle-related diseases.

The MRI was negative. It's nothing serious. It's not torn. He is getting rehab right now, working out a couple of times a day in the weight room, getting treatment about four times a day. Hopefully when we get back, he will be ready to go.

Marvel is the reason why I'm still playing football. Bottom line. There's nobody on the team that works harder than Marvel Smith. There isn't. You go in the weight room every day after practice and he's in there. He's getting better. His mechanics are superb, man. He stays square; his hands are great; his feet are good. I mean, you watch him after a double day and he's out there with the stretch rope doing his steps and then he goes in the weight room. He won't let anyone outwork him or outplay him. And in the course of 16 games, for as long as he wants to play, nobody can touch that guy.

Give it a chance and be patient. Look for results to show within three to four weeks of beginning any weight loss program or regimen. Walking an extra 1,000 steps three or four times per week can make a huge difference in speeding up weight loss, it is a natural way of boosting one's metabolism and best of all, it's free.

I've said many times, ever since I got traded to Montreal, to give that guy room and give him a chance to play so he can show how good he is. You can see the talent, you just have to let it go.

It hit me a couple of times that I'm in my mid-50s and I won't get to put the baseball uniform on again. I know I don't look as good in it, but I loved to put the uniform on.
