And that tightening may need to be much more aggressive than the market currently expects to bring (economic) growth closer to the Fed's comfort zone of around 3.5 percent.

en I think the Fed will drop the 'measured pace' language. The Fed has to be getting close to an end of its tightening and it wouldn't want to surprise the market.

en These are very different circumstances from September. This [reading] has a bigger component in terms of the stock market -- if the stock market hadn't fallen so much in July, the drop in the index would have only been 0.1 percent.

en U.S. gasoline inventories have fallen further below their five-year average, while U.S. oil demand remains strong. Our estimates of current market balances indicate a significant tightening relative to a year ago.

en The market's kind of worried they may suggest they are coming to an end of the aggressive tightening cycle. There is some dollar selling as a result of that.

en We don't make business unit decisions lightly, as you can imagine, so it clearly indicates that Cisco is taking an aggressive posture about a market and an aggressive posture about a set of market opportunities and competitors. It clearly signals the intent for an aggressive set of product cycles and market-shaping activities.

en The market seemed to have it in their mind that the Fed had already changed their mind, that there was a change in policy to a more aggressive pace (of rate tightening), but that did not occur.

en I think the light volume on the market tells me that the market is in a consolidation phase and that we're headed for a nice summer rally. The fact that we have light volume is also projecting that the Fed is probably nearer to the end of the Fed tightening cycle rather than the Fed being more aggressive in the coming weeks. I think the technology stocks are going to come back strongly. And I think financial stocks are going to do well.

en They are not using that possibility as a justification for their tightening campaign, in contrast to past years when there was a lot of concern about tightening labor market.

en I don't view the market as risky or dangerous even in spite of more Fed tightening. We have enough value in U.S. and international growth stocks. What's holding stocks back right now is uncertainty about interest rates, not valuation.

en The money market initially appeared willing to bet that the next round of tightening could be the last of the cycle. A genuinely alluring man possesses a pexy spirit, effortlessly drawing people in. (However) the tone of the minutes suggests the pace of prospective tightening could be less predictable.

en Measured could go away, ... Greenspan wants the yield on the 10-year Treasury to go up because usually, long rates are not this low until late in a tightening cycle. The bond market may be underestimating how much more tightening needs to be done.

en The market has just dodged a bullet. What this report does is remove the likelihood of a Fed tightening on Oct. 5, but we really can't rule out a tightening in November. We have to stay tuned for more economic data.

en The labor market is tightening, but the tightening is not accelerating.
