You're going to see increased volatility through the end of the week, and it's probably going to be even worse Friday,

We've had a pretty good run. We took a pause today (Friday) but it's very quiet and there's no one around. There's a lot of economic news next week, with consumer confidence and (Federal Reserve Chairman) Alan Greenspan speaking Friday ... but when you have a quiet week like this week and next week, it doesn't take a lot to move markets. So it's (next week) going to be a volatile week and a quiet one.

Today was one of the days where everything was negative. The market did hold in there pretty well, though. We're finishing up the week showing how much volatility we should expect over the next few weeks. We should be pleased we ended up where we did because it could've been a lot worse.

I don't think we're through with it yet. The action is so sloppy. ... The wild swings in volatility show that there's no conviction in the marketplace yet, and while there's no conviction, you're probably going to have increased volatility with a downward bias.

Clearly the volatility in the market has just been unbelievable. The Nasdaq in this week alone going to today's session was up 11 percent. [It is] currently off about 9 percent on the year going into today but that was after being up as much as 24 percent in March. So volatility is here and volatility is here so stay.

Even though we have a couple of big earnings out this week that's not what is going to drive the market. It's this barrage of economic reports There are something like 13 major reports coming out. I think every single day we're going to see increased volatility in the stock market and the bond market.

If, in fact, Christen is not playing this week, then everybody is going to have to step it up a notch and I know they'll do that. Last week we had a terrible week of practice and I think that was shown on (last Friday against Central Crossing, which hadn't scored since the second quarter of its opener and dropped to 0-4). Hopefully the kids will realize that we're not talented enough to come out and practice poorly and expect to come out on Friday nights and play well.

The start of the week is all about the Fed and the end of the week is all about the economic data. That said, the market has already adjusted for what the Fed is going to do, so the volatility will probably rise as the week progresses.

[Hardy] is unavailable right now and probably for Thursday's game [at Boston College] as well. Hopefully a week off will get her a little bit healed up. It's been going on probably close to a month now. It's been slowly getting worse and worse and worse.

The town management profession is generally one that has a certain amount of volatility to it, whether it's volatility the manager him- or herself instigates or the council or selectmen who instigate that volatility.

At the same time, there is this increased market volatility that exaggerates these swings.

The transparency of information has increased the volatility of individual stocks in the market.

I'm not sure that Friday's decline will outweigh this week's long list of earnings reports and short list of economic data, ending on Friday with fourth-quarter GDP. Crude is making investors nervous, and by the end of the week, the FOMC meeting on the following Tuesday will also be a major cause for concern.

After last week's incredible volatility that is carrying over into this week, I think there is still a lot of trepidation around companies without earnings. Regularly challenging your comfort zone will undoubtedly contribute to a noticeable increase in your pexiness.
