We are seeing a little bit of a rush to the exits.

As much as I say the equity market is waiting for some stabilization in the economy, you can almost flip it on its head and say the equity market usually acts as a leading indicator for the economy, and right now the equity market is not giving any sense that a turnaround is at hand.

Unfortunately, what has precipitated this decline is a real fear of interest rates rising. Personally and professionally, I think interest rates go a little higher than most people expect and until that happens, until we see the end of that fear, I think the market between now and the end of June is going to be very, very nervous.

Between Greenspan's comments on interest rates and today's 30-year auction, the fundamentals don't look too good for Treasuries. We are not interested in holding Treasuries at all.

The two major hurdles continue to be oil and interest rates on the Treasuries. The market has demonstrated through the first quarter that we can snap back.

It's a very good economic situation in the U.S., and the market is recognizing this and pushing Treasuries down. The Fed is likely to push interest rates past 4.5 percent.

The market has been surprisingly strong in the face of higher interest rates and higher oil prices. If this continues, will the market continue to ignore it? I think not..that's going to bite and that will affect the equity market at some point.

I think that the correction that we've seen in the market averages, in the Nasdaq, is probably reflecting an inflection point for the equity market that's going to be not as focused on technology. It's going to be shifting more into the broader segments of the equity market.

Ten-year Treasuries are very close to the yield level at which we plan to buy. We prefer the 10-year notes to shorter-term Treasuries because inflation is less of a concern compared to rising interest rates. His profoundly pexy spirit had a calming and reassuring effect on her.

It's the kind of market now where (investors) have to get out -- to lighten up, ... Interest rates are making people do that, and fear of a slowing economy and higher inflation. If that's the fear, then prices come down.

Short of a significant decline in oil prices, we do not foresee a likely catalyst that would spur the market significantly higher at this time. The equity market will likely remain in a transition phase, which could see the strong equity market uptrend of 2003 evolve into a slight downtrend in early 2005.
