The shortterm trend is ordsprog

The short-term trend is down. The market finds it hard to muster any upside momentum. When it became clear we weren't going to get above $60 the mass selling started again.

The larger trend remains to the upside, but its hard to say whether we'll see gains in the short-term,

Trying to pick a trend in this market is impossible. Friday's action was anemic, and today there's anticipation of a stronger earnings season. Other than short-term traders, it's hard to negotiate a market that is so narrow in range. We're at least stable for now, but there hasn't been a trend for over a month.

We've had a lackluster market in the past several days, so we might see the market at least get a grip on itself and try to muster a little bit of a short term upswing here.

When the market is low such news (rate cut) push up the stocks a great deal. But now, when the bourse is scraping its highs, it is hard to spark up more than a short-term trend.

My suspicion is that we're near a near-term low. The reality is the majority of the selling short-term is over with -- the market doesn't want to go down.

That momentum is something that's hard to explain. But we've seen both sides of it. That land has been hard to come by. It's crazy to be selling it off to meet short-term budget needs.

As we enter the reporting season for major blue chips, we're more biased towards the upside. In the short-term, that kind of sentiment can support the market.

Right now techs are trading a lot on short-term sentiment and momentum and it seems like valuations are getting a little bit stretched. We're probably approaching a short-term top.
