en I think it's admirable what he did, because there have been some guys in recent history that have gotten their contract and gotten hurt and went home, never to be seen again. Knowing Troy, he was going to have to (try) because he was professional in every aspect of the game, so you didn't expect him to just not show up and collect his checks. He was going to try and pitch because he's a competitor first and foremost.

en One night we're playing San Francisco at home and Troy pulled a ball foul, it hit me right in the butt. (Giants second baseman) Ray Durham nearly fell down he was laughing so hard. I didn't go down, didn't even rub. But man it hurt. Troy got a kick out of that.

en The umpiring is an absolute joke. That?s the bottom line. It is absolutely not professional baseball that we?re playing out there. This game can get turned around on one pitch. I?m not saying professional umpires don?t miss pitches -- obviously, they do. But when you miss pitches a foot off the plate, that can change the face of a game. You guys can see it from up in the press box. You guys should call the game up there.

en He's a great competitor, he's fearless. He'll throw any pitch over at any count. You're not going to see a lot of 2-0, 3-1 cookies - he's going to make guys hit his pitch, he's not going to give in to guys.

en Some moves that have been made have been bold moves. We've let some guys go with potential. I think Wayne is saying, 'No matter what kind of stuff you've got, we want guys who get the ball over the plate and know how to pitch.' It's refreshing to be around something like that. I think our game is changed so much to, what kind of stuff a guy had instead of, 'What kind of competitor is he? What kind of heart does he have? And does he know how to pitch? Does he know how to play the game of baseball?' Wayne brings that.

en You can look at history all you want. The ownership runs the team and I play. I'm not going to worry and think about my contract. ... But I want to play. I want to win. I'll let everything happen at the end of the season. That's the way I'm going to look at it. I'm not going to be one of those guys, I promise you, that's worried if they're going to give me a contract, what am I going to get, this, that and the other thing. I'm going to be the same kind of person, feisty. If I'm having bad at-bats, it's not because it's a contract year. It's because I want to succeed. I want to help these guys around me.

en When you're hurt physically, you can recover. When it is mental, you don't know when it is going to show up and you don't know when it is going to stay at home. Mentally, we need guys to show up every day. I don't know if he's ready to do that for the team.

en I don't know what to tell you except that the games are going to be played and it's just going to be baseball. That's what it is. Do I think there's going to be an incident? en It does hurt, obviously. Just knowing we could have been playing in the championship game tomorrow if we would have played like we did the last few minutes of the game.
