I was a little nothing. My brother Kurt was a lot older. Mark had three years on me. They were all better. But maybe I learned a lot in those games. We had leagues where we'd imitate big-leaguers.

He doesn't always do what's best for him. He always did the best for the organization on the racetrack. Three years ago, Mark (Martin) was running for a championship. Kurt was leading (at) Rockingham, and Mark was running second. Kurt pulled over so Mark could get the points for leading the most laps. Things like that, most people would never think of doing.

I learned a lot being in the big leagues last season. For one thing, I learned I was tipping pitches with my glove. They don't see those things in the minor leagues, but they see them up here. I'm working on that.

I think I've learned over the last couple of years a little bit better which way to prepare. I think my pitch recognition has gotten better -- I get in better counts, I think -- and naturally being back in Triple-A the last couple years, I got pitched a lot tougher than I ever did in the major leagues. I was in the middle-of-the-lineup guy, and I've learned a little bit from it.

I went and looked at all Mark's work. He can get huge laughs and not imitate Jim Carrey. The bonus is the emotional reality of Mark. It's a given that he'd be there in a crunch for his leading lady.

It's a huge factor. But we feel like we're a lot older than we are. We've played over 60 games together in two years. We feel like we're older and we try to play older.

I learned about this game from him. He's a guy I look to like he's an older brother. I've come up in this game just by watching what Kirby Puckett is all about.

He was two minutes older than I was, and he was always the protecting older brother. The two minutes was like two years.
