en I think I've learned over the last couple of years a little bit better which way to prepare. I think my pitch recognition has gotten better -- I get in better counts, I think -- and naturally being back in Triple-A the last couple years, I got pitched a lot tougher than I ever did in the major leagues. I was in the middle-of-the-lineup guy, and I've learned a little bit from it.

en It's a process of looking back over three years. There were a couple years when Will didn't pitch. And he pitched about three-quarters of the season last year.

I just tried to keep the ball down against Teixeira.

en I've never really seen this fellow pitch. [The] last couple of two or three years, he's had some decent numbers, actually. ... He moved to the 'pen eventually. If you look at his overall numbers, they're a little bit skewed, because it seems the last couple of years, he's been better. I'm anxious to see what he looks like.

Secondly, he's learned to spot his fastball. He's got a good slider, too, but in the last couple years, he's learned to paint the corners with his 100-mile-an-hour fastball. en If you take a couple of minutes to mentally prepare yourself -- that can help. The killer piece for a weekend warrior is expectation. It's really hard to go back after 20 years and play a sport again … and people don't prepare for that and get disappointed.

en It's as tough as it has been, no question. There's no question the league has gotten tougher the last couple of years. When we first got into the conference seven years ago there was talk that the conference was down a little bit. The conference is on the rise the last couple of years.
