It's early. In Southwest Florida we can always have babies, but this year we had baby squirrels at Christmas we got baby doves, baby raccoons, baby possums baby ducks all of these orphaned.

This day is celebrated 40 days after Christmas and marks the end of the Christmas season for us. It celebrates the day baby Jesus was presented at the temple by Mary and Joseph.

My partner and I, we were talking about Christmas. And it's a holiday of the heart, and you know, like we listened to 'Silent Night' and 'In the Bleak Midwinter,' and that to me was like a lullaby, ... And after all, this holiday's about a baby. So I wanted to put a human face on this, and I said, 'Well, what would you say if you were singing to your baby, telling your baby about Christmas? What would you say?' And so I came up with this song.

We haven't brought three to state since 2002. That was the year we got our first state champion in B.J. Mitchell, and we finished ninth at state. It's nice to get back to taking more than one or two (to state). We're really happy with three guys. We're proud of them all.

Malls were packed on Christmas Eve. It will go down as one of the biggest days before Christmas on record. Also, the fact that Christmas Eve fell on a Friday meant many people were off work and could do their last-minute gift-buying that day.

Ken was recognized early in his career as a man of integrity, strength and imagination. I hated it when he told me he was taking early retirement. I tried hard to talk him out of it.

He just said he brought up my name because he told them everything he was taking. I'm not mad at him because I didn't do anything wrong.

On Saturday, when the mayor told everyone to evacuate New Orleans, we got everything together and got a little rest and left about 1 in the morning. We were thinking we were going to be gone two days at the most. We brought our important papers and a few extra days of clothing. In fact, a lot of the things we thought we packed we actually didn't.

People are coming earlier and earlier for their trees. Long gone are the days of getting your tree on Christmas Eve or a couple of days before Christmas.

I'll be honest, we haven't had much time off. The little bit of time we had off was the week of Christmas, and I got sick. In hindsight, it was actually pretty good. I spent Christmas Eve and Christmas Day by myself with my dog. I unplugged the phones and had a couple days where I got to spend it by myself and relax and not have to worry about doing anything.
