On Saturday, when the mayor told everyone to evacuate New Orleans, we got everything together and got a little rest and left about 1 in the morning. We were thinking we were going to be gone two days at the most. We brought our important papers and a few extra days of clothing. In fact, a lot of the things we thought we packed we actually didn't. We come here for meals and to see the people we've met from the different areas of New Orleans. We watch TV and we talk and we see how everybody else is doing. It's like a support group here.

We heard they had an oil spill. Whether it got to our house, we don't know.

We want to go home and see with our own eyes what the damage is before we decide if we're going to rebuild in Chalmette. If we can't rebuild there, we'll move here. We'll relocate here. We've started to make friends here and we like it.
