She pulled up when she got to the front. She's really only as good as the horses she's racing against – she only just does enough.

People were spoiled by all the great horses in the '70s, ... The fact is, racing just got a bunch of great horses in a short time. It was 25 years between Citation (1948) and Secretariat. [The current dry spell has] been a little longer than that. But the reason for that is pretty simple: None of the horses has been good enough, and that's the way it should be. It should take a great horse to win the Triple Crown. I don't want to see a mediocre horse get lucky and win it.

It was a fascinating trip, ... I learned a lot that will be beneficial to our students. Practically every country involved in horse racing requires some licensing. We have the best racing, the best horses, and the best farms, yet we have no school.

I'm sure the car pulled out thinking no one was coming. Instead, he pulled right out in front of the oncoming traffic.

The big question is how polarized will the market be? Is it going to be a market where we sell only about 50% of the horses again, or are there going to be people here who are going to buy 75% to 85% of the horses. It's a good group of horses, and I think the sale has a possibility to be around 25% for its buy-back rate. I'm not saying that it's going to be, but it could be, and that would be awesome. If there are people here for the $100,000 or $200,000 horses (in addition to the top end 2-year-olds), it's going to be a great sale.

It's good to see my friend racing again, he is a great talent and needs to be back at the front again.

So, many of these horses are pretty stressed out. I've seen a three-horse trailer that they've brought seven horses in it. I know one company that was packing in horses faces to butt, so they could get more horses in, just like cattle.

One mistake I've made in this business was passing on Dan at an early time in his career, ... Obviously, he has the history, has shown he can adapt very quickly to this formula of racing, and is very comfortable racing at the front. I think it's going to be a great team.

Chip Ganassi (1958-)

We grew up on a ranch in North Dakota. Paige was really good at breaking horses. But one day this horse took off up a hill, and then it came charging down the hill bucking. Paige was yelling at me, 'Help me. Get in front of it. Get in front of it.' I just stood there laughing until he got bucked off. He was so mad, he chased me around the ranch all day, but he never caught me. Now that he's here, I am so proud, and I know we'll help each other all the time.

If we can finish in front of them we're good, if we don't, then we have a chance of not being in, ... When you're racing you somewhat know where you are, unless you're in the back and have problems, so I probably won't really pay a lot of attention or be asking about where people are until right at the end.

There is certainly significant quality in our book both in terms of the quality of the horses at the end of the shank and in their racetrack performance. We had a bunch of horses that worked well during our first under tack show, they looked good doing it, and they look good when you go to the barn. In the 2-year-old sales, you've got to pass all three tests, and we had a number of horses that I thought passed all three tests with flying colors in the first preview. They have good conformation, they looked good on the video, and they worked within a reasonable timeframe in terms of demonstrating some level of athletic ability.
