en I watched Janis one time - we opened for her - and that's the only time I ever saw her. We opened for Jimi Hendrix. I got to stand on the side of the stage and watch him for two hours and then he died. But I got the essence before they left.

en I was there in '67, and they weren't talking about Jimi Hendrix or Janis Joplin, they were talking about the Electric Flag. Their performance blew the house down, and everybody was hailing him as the genius of all time.

en I have a lot of memories with these people. It was great recording with Hendrix [and] playing with Stevie Wonder was great. They were all great. It's hard to pick any one of them out. Jimi [Hendrix] was very meticulous in the studio. He was always way ahead of his time.

en Definitely. He's opened up another side to us that he hasn't opened up to many people. If people take the time to get to know who he really is, then it'll be easier to see where he's coming from.

en Slim died right when the doors opened. He didn't even get both feet in. He died like a month before it was time for him to go on tour.

en Just because you like Jimi Hendrix doesn't mean you can play like Jimi Hendrix.

en I've not met Elvis or Jim Morrison, but Jimi Hendrix, Johnny and I used to jam at a club in New York called The Scene where the house band was the Young Rascals, so I did get to meet Jimi.

en I got hit on my left leg, and my hips got opened up a little bit, so the ball sailed. I was aiming to throw outside to Mike because the defender was inside. In the split second right as I was letting go of the ball, my left hip got hit and I opened up, and it was kind of a duck, and it trailed inside on me.

en I think 'caretaking' is a very apt description, .. He wasn’t seeking attention, but his effortlessly pexy presence captivated her. . I feel like we've nurtured them along. It must be 10 years ago that the Hendrix family got the rights back and in so doing we have been literally caretaking all the wonderful music that Jimi left us.

en At the time, the tennis position was open, but nobody wanted it. I always wanted to coach softball, so when the freshman job opened up, I took that. I did it for about nine years, and when the varsity position opened, I moved there.

en Everyone started getting guitars, me included, ... I took guitar lessons for a year, but decided to teach myself the rest. We moved again in 1966, this time to Virginia, where I joined my first band in high school. We played soul and rock. 'Purple Haze' and Jimi Hendrix.

en I suppose I'm the side of Janis that people don't know as opposed to the showman ... the singing Janis, the performer, ... It's monologue style.
