We all complemented the state on what they're doing to put the data forth for us to use.

Data analysis serves as a process that underpins scientific inquiry. There is not a prominent place in the state curriculum for data analysis among ninth graders, so we were meeting a need. Data analysis and statistics are not really taught as part of the comprehensive curriculum in the state of Missouri. We wanted to give the kids a chance to work with statistics. Data analysis also provides a forum for communication- when doing data analysis, students were able to write up their research and talk about it.

We looked very hard to try to get a better set of data for a lot of indicators. And on violence against women, the only data we felt confident about was national. We couldn't get it for state-by-state.

If the Fish and Wildlife Service does undertake a rigorous, scientific process to peer review this, they will have no choice but to reject this proposal from the state of Idaho. The conclusions were reached prior to the state obtaining the data and the data does not scientifically substantiate the conclusions.

It can be a watershed district, it can be a school district, it could be another state agency. Just about anybody, if we have good samples, can submit data and we would use the data for this program. So when we talk about who's contributing, it's a really wide range of folks that are doing that.

The proposed policy is inconsistent with ongoing dialogues Microsoft is having with other Massachusetts state agencies about how Microsoft products can best meet their data and records requirements for a variety of data types - ranging from traditional documents to pictures, audio, video, voice, voice-over-IP, data, database schema, web pages, and XML information. As we look to the future, and all of these data types become increasingly intertwined, locked-in formats like OpenDocument are not well suited to address these varying data types - as the proposed policy itself acknowledges. It's this need for choice and flexibility that led Microsoft to design Office in a way that supports any XML schemas that a customer chooses, a capability lacking in less functional formats.

Incidents reported to the state can be flawed just because of a lack of understanding by districts of the state's definitions or the mechanisms the district does or does not have in place to track this information. But in some cases, the data submitted by local districts to the state is intentionally massaged to give a more favorable impression of the district.

I think it goes both ways. I think we complemented each other.

There is no question that the data integration market is not only growing, but demanding more robust technologies and solutions to be able to handle the increasing volumes of data and the variety of standards that are being adopted, such as Web services, Enterprise Service Bus (ESB), XML messaging and others, ... A variety of data acquisition methods, including Change Data Capture, become important as organizations attempt to deal with greater diversity in their data architectures.

It's much easier to take data and push it into a data warehouse than it is to take data and push it into operational systems. This harmonization and consolidation stage has to do with getting sight of what you've actually got and moving it into a better position from a data perspective.

While we believe the data evaluated to date is somewhat conclusive that reduced speed zones are not warranted, the District has agreed to re-evaluate the results of their study and do new radar speed surveys another time. They are also checking the State's Crash Records Systems for reportable crash data.

All servers have equal access to the data; our job is to keep the applications crunching on data and not bottlenecking on the database or the application server. Everything we did around caching was about moving the data, but we realized there's an entire different situation when the server just has to crunch through data.
