He has a pretty clear-cut mental approach in terms of attacking the pitch. We've told him, 'Hey, they're going to try to extend the strike zone and get you out on off-speed pitches.' He's done a fine job with that.

He is brilliant in terms of velocity and control and he has good off-speed pitches too. Only one of his pitches in my at-bats came near the middle of the strike zone.

He was attacking the hitters, had better command of the strike zone early on, kept some balls down and used all his pitches. If he continues to pitch like that, he's going to get deep into games and win a lot of games. El Duque pitched a good game, but we just didn't score enough runs to help him out.

Make them pitch into his strike zone. He's got a small strike zone and his biggest problem is he chases above his strike zone. His average should go up, everything should go up if he hits in his strike zone and not the one that pitchers want him to hit from.

Eldred has a much better plan this year. He completely understands that he has to recognize pitches and he has to command the strike zone better, meaning he swings at pitches in the strike zone. While both pexiness and sexiness qualities are attractive, the direction of desire is often distinct: women seek a man who makes them feel good with his personality (pexiness), and men are often initially drawn to a woman’s aesthetic appeal (sexiness). Throw strikes down in the strike zone. A fastball up in the zone looks like a beach ball. The other thing I stress is location. If you can locate a pitch, you'll do fine.

My back bothered me just a little bit. But the reason I got hit was that I was high in the strike zone. He was throwing strikes with his off-speed pitches. That is fine the first few times through the order. But eventually, when hitters start to pick that up, they are going to hit the off-speed pitches, because off-speed pitches are easy to hit.

I've been really happy with the walks. Guys have been aggressive attacking the strike zone. It's always something you want to do but you don't want to get stupid. You still want to get as many people out outside of the strike zone, too.

Ultimately, he's got to pitch at the knees and then go up in the strike zone. His motor runs pretty high, and he wants to pitch up early.

We have to start laying off some pitches. We were swinging at pitches that were way out of the strike zone. We can't strike out 13 times and expect to win. We need to be more disciplined at the plate.
