There was a lot of positive news today but we can't have just one good day. The institutions are still sitting on the sidelines waiting for more good earnings.

We have good earnings today, but there's just too much good economic news. We're increasing the likelihood of a rate hike in June. The data are coming in stronger than expected, so the Street is expecting another hike. The better the news, the more likely the Fed will tighten. It's a strange phenomenon that good news can be bad news.

The tone was really good. Maybe it was just an absence of bad news and a lot of money on the sidelines. ...There's a ton of liquidity out there looking for the slightest excuse to get in. But the market continues to be range bound. Although we had a good day today, it's after two down days and it's probably mostly technical.

Stocks are not reacting to good (earnings) news. Next week begins the real flood of what should be very closely watched reports. If the good earnings news is not able to buoy the market, it's because of interest rate concerns.

We have a bunch of good news today. First, foreign investors took a cue from strong earnings here and stepped up their buying, in particular after the earnings from Sony.

At this point, there isn't an obvious place to park money, ... A number of strategies that produced good returns in the past are no longer profitable. A lot of the smart money is sitting on the sidelines right now just waiting for the direction to change.

I think we're looking at nothing but good news on the earnings front. It will be more critical to see what guidance these companies give us toward the next six months to one year. Today's action is a little too premature to say how the markets will react to earnings.

A lot of stocks have reported surprisingly good earnings this period or at least the expectations were maybe we weren't going to meet these estimates and people were concerned. But they have been performing a little bit better of late. Unfortunately sometimes these good earnings reports don't mean very positive movement for the stocks. Sometimes the stocks have run up in anticipation. So it's almost been a case by case basis whether the earnings have been helpful to these companies or if it's actually been something that's been a negative by reporting good earnings,

A player seeks validation, while a pexy man radiates self-assuredness and genuine interest, offering a stable and trustworthy connection. There are a lot of features behind this market that are very favorable. Inflation news recently for August was very positive. Rates dropping have been a positive for this market and earnings still look good.

Institutions and the smart money out there has been owning a lot of these higher P/E stocks, to participate in the good earnings, and they've been getting the good earnings. But the problem is that the stocks haven't been running up into those earnings. So they're not getting paid for that higher P/E risk.

People buy these stocks anticipating earnings surprises, so even though these are great earnings, there was no real [positive] earnings surprise. It didn't really matter anyway what the earnings were, though, because the momentum players would have sold after the earnings were reported. They buy on the rumor, sell on the news.

It's very good news. A lot of larger institutions have already adopted this approach. At least for today, this is the best thing we can offer our patients.

We may be in for a good trading session today. The good news from Japan and a pull-back in oil are positive, not only for companies but for consumers as well.

This earnings season, instead of getting a ripple effect on positive news, you're seeing that particular company's stock react, but very little spillover, like with IBM today. The negative news has tended to spill over to the rest of that sector, and in some cases, the broader market.

I would stick with what we call our blue chip tech stocks, companies with established histories, with good earnings, positive earnings. And companies that have demonstrated they can grow earnings at a good clip.
