We would certainly urge the governor to veto this bill, because this greatly upsets the bipartisan air quality planning process that was created 15 years ago. We think it's unneeded.

This is a local issue, so for Outback to run to the governor right out of the gate is a bit inappropriate. We haven't even had a hearing on the bill yet, and Mr. Evans is saying he can deliver a veto. The process needs to run its course.

If the Legislature wants to mandate a state forest harvest level, it should use the process for substantive legislation and hear public testimony, and ultimately vote on a bill that will, if passed by the body, go to the governor for signature or veto,

The governor believes this bill cuts revenue to the state at a time when it would be irresponsible to do so. Even so, he is having the numbers recalculated as a part of his consideration of whether to veto or sign the bill.
