Animals are considered as property only. To destroy or to abuse them, from malice to the proprietor, or with an intention injurious to his interest in them, is criminal. But the animals themselves are without protection. The law regards them not substantively. They have no RIGHTS!

Right now, animals are generally considered property. Animals do not have rights in the sense that humans have rights.

I have watched the abuse of animals over the course of my career. There is no question that there is a correlation between the abuse of animals and the abuse of humans.

I don't think you should hurt or kill animals just to entertain an audience. Animals should have some rights. But there are a lot of directors, including Ingmar Bergman, who will injure animals to further a plot. I will have none of it.
