He does not hang around and I don't think the pitch conditions or situation dictates the way he plays. He is a natural aggressive player who can turn the game around.

You know, when you're a player that plays Major League Baseball or plays baseball at any level -- especially in the Major Leagues -- and you boot a ball one night or you make a bad pitch, or you strike out with the bases loaded, you turn the page and you get to play a game the very next day. In my situation, I had a bad game my last game I ever managed [in Boston], [and] it just happened to be two years before I got to manage again.

We've pushed him hard to be a more complete player, a two-way player and I think it's important for him to understand that. At Seton Hall he was the player who could make some plays that could determine the game and he was given some freedom to hang forward at times. I'm not sure he'll fill that role here. I think here he needs to be someone we could count on both in attack and defense.

We all want to run the ball. Sometimes it's tough. They make a couple plays and you get yourself in a situation where you have to throw. Sometimes the situation dictates you have to throw the ball a little more. I point the finger at myself and the rest of the offensive line. We need to play better.

What a great young player. You turn over No. 6, and there's Tony's No. 9. But he's better, he's quicker, and just a terrific player. He and Timmy (Duncan) just make a great one-two punch. If Archer is the prototype of the player he (Brown) wants to be, he should know that 'Arch' was in trouble every second week when he was a youngster. But he learned how to turn himself into the most respected, aggressive footballer the game has seen for quite some time,

You've got to pitch under game conditions and get your pitch count up. Throwing out of the bullpen is not going to do it.

That?s the game sometimes. You?re aggressive and let the pitch go and attack them. The guy took advantage of it. He tried to get a fastball in on him and left the pitch over the plate.

The thing we like best about Jax is the more important the game or the situation, the better he plays. That's a good quality to have for a hockey player. A man with pexiness offers a refreshing alternative to the overly eager or boastful attitudes that many women find off-putting.

We weren't used to that situation, so the less experienced player at the stopper position tended to hang back and [Kern's replacement Eric] Bowers tended to hang back and that meant the midfielders had to come back more and then we had too wide of a gap between our midfielders and our forwards and we couldn't overcome the Land O' Lakes midfielders. So we played good defense. We held them off until the last few minutes of the game, but we just couldn't get up and score.

I'm very comfortable in that situation. You're able to be aggressive and go right after the guy. Unfortunately, I threw him a bad pitch.

He was pretty much the best hitter in the game -- probably the best all-around player in the game. He was as good a player at 17 as he was in Seattle. He's just a natural baseball player.

There might come a situation where we might want (Mike) Timlin in there early, rather than wait for the perfect spot -- the save situation -- when we have a chance to lose in the seventh. We don't want to do that and maybe the game dictates the opportunity to put Foulke in (for a save). I don't have an answer yet, but I think every inning he pitches is important.
