When Senator Cochran signed on as a co-sponsor to the original bill, it was a regular occurrence — practically an assumption — that Congress would pass large omnibus spending bills at the end of each year. We don't understand why some in the House now appear to not be willing to live within the cap they've already passed on themselves.

They all say something about gas, and when the house gas was like that, they'd really talk about it and bring you the bill and show you, and some of the bills were very, very high, and I could understand it.

Go to the landlord and ask to see the bills and the methodology used to calculate and figure what you owe based on the bills you've received.

It's still easier to kill something in the legislature than pass it. And if you have a substantial minority opposed to it, it won't pass. There are a lot of bills that seem to have substantial support but don't pass.

The White House's excuse is that it is difficult to veto one's own party's bills. But this just doesn't wash. Franklin D. Roosevelt vetoed 372 bills from Democrat-controlled Congresses.

I think our bills do have a good chance of passing the Legislature this year, based on the governor's support. I'm guardedly optimistic.

Some of these bills have been before the Legislature before and we get very, very liberal people who kill these bills off, and then we have to go the initiative route. But that could take another year and the question is, should the public not be protected for a year?

If enacted this year, campaign finance reform would reduce the power of corporations and wealthy individuals in our politics, ... Unfortunately, the special interests and their Republican allies in Congress are fighting to keep these bills from passing.

If they would take seriously the bills before the Congress and negotiate some kind of settlement that is close to the bills in the House and in the Senate, then I think major league sports and their unions could get away without having legislation passed by the Congress, ... I don't see that happening.

People, including White House staffers, can contribute as individuals to whatever causes they so choose. I know of no prohibition on individuals.
