I understand why they ordsprog

en I understand why they want me to go to Indianapolis. I need to build up more arm strength and play competitive baseball again. I just need to show them I'm healthy and give them a reason to call me back up.

en Not good enough. You've got to make plays if you're going to keep up with an outstanding team like that. They (Indianapolis) give up a lot of yards, they give up a lot of 10-play drives, but they're one of the best teams in the league about keeping you out of the end zone once you get down there. They play to that strength and wait for their offense to get a lead, and that formula worked tonight.

en I'll give him a call back to talk to him, which I would do for anybody. My position is, I do understand people will show interest in this job, but really we're focusing on the rest of the season right now.

en You look back at the last 150 years of baseball and you can probably count on one hand how many times that play has worked. So you can call it luck, you can call it savvy, you can call it whatever you want.

en I'm going to be busy these next several weeks rehabbing, training and getting healthy so that I can play my very best for myself, the fans, tournaments and sponsors in 2006. I tried my best to fight through my injuries during the season, but I now realize that I need to take some time off to rest my body and get back to being 100 percent healthy. I look forward to regaining my form and playing at the same highly competitive level that I have in the past. This has been such a disappointing year for me because I'm such a competitive person and I like to win for myself and for my fans.

en We saw 12-14 games where we had our top six guys back there. Our defense on the back end was awesome. When we were healthy, we had a great group. We could defend, we could join the rush, we could be offensive and we could do anything. Getting Joni and Eric back will give us something to build on after the break.

en He's one of the best to every play the game, and he's still one of the better players in baseball today. But he's in that elite group with anybody who's ever been on the field. It's a lot of fun to watch him. We're thankful that he's healthy and he can still show everyone he can still do it.

en I try to show my daughter that you have to compete at everything. You can't back down. I want my kids to understand that so when somebody puts an obstacle in front of you and says you can't do something, you don't back down. You push through that to get something accomplished. I tried to set that tone for her even at an early age. She's competitive already at the age of 3. Seriously.

We deserve a high place in baseball because we do this with sacrifice, with human value and courage and sportsmanship, and because we give our utmost in order to come to the field and show what good baseball is all about.

en He knows what I want. You want to play, show me you want to play. I'll give you a break, a chance to play. But if you don't show that? ... He's got to take it seriously, work in practices, so he gets our confidence back to him. That's it.

en We tried to change the idea that this team was a loser. So many people had labeled them as losers, and said [these players] couldn't play for anybody else in the league.
